Mark your calendars now! The dates have been set for
our next ISRAEL STUDY TOUR, hosted by Bob and Colleen Nunziato:
March 24 - April 5, 2008.
"There are
five Gospels that tell the story of the life of Jesus. Four you will
find in the Bible; the fifth is the Land they call Holy. Explore the
Fifth Gospel and the world of the other four will open up to
you." Dewey Bertolini
Just imagine spending one night on the shores of the sparkling
Mediterranean Sea, 4 nights dipping your toes in the Sea of Galilee,
1 night at the Dead Sea, and a full five nights in the Holy City,
the City of Gold, the crowned jewel of the Middle East, Jerusalem.
We'll sail across the Sea of Galilee, float in the Dead Sea, ascend
the mighty Masada (in a cable car), visit the Qumran where the Dead
Sea Scrolls were found, pray at the Western Wall, but MOST
IMPORTANTLY, we'll literally walk where Jesus walked!
Here's the day-by-day itinerary,
carefully and prayerfully planned just for
you!
Monday, March
24: We will meet at the
airport three hours prior to departure on our flight to Tel Aviv.
Tuesday, March
25: Upon our arrival at the
Tel Aviv airport we will be met and transferred to our hotel in
Caesarea for dinner and
overnight.
Wednesday,
March 26: We will start
our day with a visit to
Caesarea Maritima, the
Roman capital of Judea. Here the centurion Cornelius heard the
Gospel preaching of Peter (Acts 10) and later Paul made his defense
before King Agrippa prior to his final journey to Rome (Acts 25,
26). Proceed to
Mt.
Carmel and Muhraka where
Elijah prayed down the fire from Heaven (I Kings 18). Continue to
Megiddo and view the
Valley
of Armageddon
(Rev. 16:16), site of the final battle of this age. View the
excavations from the time of Solomon (I Kings 9:15).
We
drive to
Nazareth, boyhood home of
Jesus (Lk. 2) for an overlook and brief visit. Visit
Nazareth Village, a farm
and Galilean village recreating Nazareth as it was 2000 years ago.
On the way to our hotel we will stop at the church in
Cana
(where Jesus turned water into wine at the wedding celebration, John
2) where some may wish to renew their marriage vows.
Continue to our hotel overlooking the Sea of Galilee for dinner and
overnight.
Thursday, March
27: Today will be spent,
literally, walking in the footsteps of Jesus as we walk the land of
Jesus' healing and teaching ministry around the
Sea of
Galilee. We board our
wooden sailing boat, fashioned after the ancient fishing vessels,
for a boat ride across the
Sea of Galilee to
Nof
Ginossar where we will view
the ancient boat found in the mud of the Sea of Galilee. Continue to
Capernaum (John 6:24) where
we visit the ancient ruins of the first century synagogue where
Jesus preached (Matt. 4:13-17). Continue to the
Mt. of
Beatitudes where Jesus
preached the "Sermon on the Mount" (Matt. 5-7). Here we will take
time for prayer and meditation while enjoying a breathtaking view of
the Sea of Galilee. Visit
Tabgha,
traditional site of the Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes and the
Church
of the Primacy of St. Peter.
Friday, March
28: Leaving the Sea of
Galilee, we head north to the ancient city of
Safed,
one of the four cities held sacred to Jews and the center of
Cabalistic mysticism. Many believe this was the city to which Jesus
referred when he said that "a city that is set on a hill cannot be
hid" (Matt. 5:14). Today Safed is a thriving Artist's Colony. We
will visit an ancient synagogue and view the winding narrow streets
as we take the opportunity to view some of the art. Drive to
Hazor
where the first inhabitants dwelt 4500 years ago. Proceed to
Korazim to view the remains
of an ancient synagogue with Jewish symbols, Aramaic and Hebrew
inscriptions, then via
Mt.
Arbel to Yardenit on the
Jordan
River where those who wish
may be baptized prior to returning to our hotel for
dinner and overnight.
Saturday, March
29: Ascend the
Golan
Heights and view the way to
Damascus from Mt. Bental. Proceed to
Caesarea Philippi (Banias),
one of the sources of the Jordan River at the base of
Mt.
Hermon (Matt. 16:13). Here
Jesus declared "I will build My church" (Matt. 16:18). Continue
through the Hula Valley to
Tel
Dan, site of the ancient
city of Leshem, (Josh. 19:47). Here Abraham rescued Lot (Gen.
14:13-16) and Jeroboam erected a golden calf (I Kings 12:26-33).
Drive through the Huleh Valley to
Ayelet
Hashachar where we will
pick up our jeeps for our jeep ride to Gadot
Bunker. Return to our hotel in
Tiberias for dinner and
overnight
Sunday, March
30: Leaving the Sea of
Galilee we drive south to
Ma'ayan Harod where Gideon
received his call from the Lord. We continue to
Beit
She'an where King Saul and
Jonathan fell fighting the Philistines and where they hung from the
city gates (I Sam. 31). After spending some time viewing the
spectacular excavations we will continue down the winding Jordan
Valley to the
Dead
Sea area. Visit the
Qumran
Caves where the ancient
Dead
Sea Scrolls were found,
then continue to the oasis of
Ein
Gedi and take a
nature walk to where David
hid from Saul before continuing to our hotel on the shores of the
Dead Sea for dinner and overnight.
Monday, March
31: We will have a little
time to float in the Dead Sea before departing for
the spectacular fortress of
Masada,
the last stronghold of the Jewish rebellion against the
Romans. Ascend (by cable car) and view the remains of the Roman
wall, the water system, baths, store rooms, swimming pool and
synagogue before descending. Continue to
Tel
Mareshah and
Beit
Guvrin for a visit to the
Bell Caves where we can clearly see the Christian crosses carved
into the walls. Continue north through the
Valley
of Elah, scene of the
battle between David and Goliath, then to
Emmaus
where Jesus appeared to two disciples (Luke 24:13-35). We will stop
at
Kiriath Yearim where
Abinadab lived and kept the Ark of the Covenant for 20 years (I
Sam.7:1-2) and from where we can have our first view
of
JERUSALEM! Continue to our
hotel for the remainder of our stay.
Tuesday, April
1: The Bible becomes a
three-dimensional book as the life-changing experiences of the next
several days begin to unfold. The remarkable journey back in time
begins when we view the site of the
Ascension, see the olive
trees on the
Mt. of
Olives that date back to
the time of Christ and take time to pray in the
Garden
of Gethsemane. Drive
through the
Kidron
Valley to
Mt.
Zion to view King David's
Tomb and visit the Upper Room (Room
of the Last Supper - Jn.
13-17). A view of the
Shepherds’ Field will
remind us of those who first heard the news of the Savior’s birth.
Circumstances permitting, we will also visit
Bethlehem.
Wednesday,
April 2: We will begin
our day in the
Old
City, entering through the
Dung
Gate and
praying at the
Western Wall where for
centuries Jews have prayed and left written prayers in the niches of
the stones. Ascend the
Temple
Mount before continuing on
a walking tour of the reconstructed
Jewish
Quarter. We will
see prophecy being fulfilled
right before our eyes as we visit the
Treasures of the Temple Museum,
where we will learn more about the trumpets, priestly garments, the
24 karat golden miter and other articles described in great detail
in the Bible and now being prepared fo use in the prophesied Third
Temple. We'll walk through the
Cardo,
the original Roman street of the AD 2nd century with the amazing
Israelite wall and Herodian quarters. View the recent excavations,
including the Ophel and
City
of David before returning
to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Thursday, April
3: We will start the day
with a visit to
Yad
Vashem, memorial to the 6
million Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Continue to the
Shrine
of the Book, home of the
Dead Sea Scrolls, then view the
model
of Jerusalem as it was
during the Roman period. This afternoon is at leisure for shopping,
sightseeing, or time to yourself. (Circumstances permitting, Dewey
will be leading those who would like to
wade
through
Hezekiah's Tunnel, ending up at the
Pool of Siloam!) Dinner is at your hotel tonight.
Friday, April 4: On
our last day of sightseeing in the Holy Land we will visit the
scenes of Jesus’ betrayal and agony, starting with the
House
of Caiaphas (St. Peter's en Gallicantu) on the eastern slope of Mt. Zion. This was the
scene of Jesus' first trial and here Peter denied the Lord. We will
once again enter the Old City and visit the
Pool
of Bethesda, continuing to
the
Praetorium, site of the
public trial of Christ and His condemnation. View its ancient
remains in the
Fortress of Antonia and
walk the
Via Dolorosa, ending at the
Church
of the Holy Sepulcher where
we will contemplate the agony of Christ's crucifixion. We will end
the day and our Pilgrimage with
Communion in the tranquility of the
Garden
Tomb.
Saturday, April
5: Return home today with
a lifetime of memories to cherish, having met the God of the Bible
in the Land of the Bible, and having deepened our faith by returning
to our roots.
